CULTURAL BRIDGES: Engaging Young People and Youth Workers to develop their Cultural Intelligence for Diverse Online Communities

The Cultural Bridges project aims to harness the digital activism potential of Gen Z, empowering them and youth workers to address cultural intolerance online. By providing tailored educational initiatives, online advocacy training, and fostering community action, the project will equip participants with the tools they need to promote cultural tolerance in the years to come.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The Cultural Bridges project aims to harness the digital activism potential of Gen Z and support them in addressing cultural intolerance online. To support this aim, the project has set the following project objectives:

Cultivate Cultural Intelligence (CQ) in Gen Z

Foster Gen Z knowledge about cultural diversity, biases, and cross-cultural communication, enabling them to become informed advocates of cultural tolerance.

Empower Youth Workers as Mentors

Equip youth workers with the knowledge and tools to effectively guide and mentor Gen Z in promoting cultural tolerance.

Leverage Gen Z's Online Presence for Advocacy

Empower Gen Z to leverage their online presence as a powerful tool for advocating cultural tolerance

Develop Critical Thinking Skills for Online Engagement

Empower Gen Z to identify misinformation, challenge stereotypes, and engage in constructive online discourse about cultural issues

Foster Cross-Border Dialogue and Connection

Extend the reach of cultural tolerance discussions beyond national borders. Encourage Gen Z to forge connections and engage in dialogues with peers across Europe

Inspire Gen Z to Take Local Actions in their communities

Support them in organising local events, workshops, and campaigns that promote cultural understanding and acceptance.

PROJECT PARTNERS

Spanning six European nations – Latvia, Ireland, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, and Germany – the Cultural Bridges project unites experienced organizations in a collaborative effort  to promote cultural tolerance through tailored educational initiatives, online advocacy, and community action.

Zemgale NGO Center, Latvia (Coordinator)

Zemgale NGO Centre was established in 1998 to promote the development of civic society. Over the last twenty years, the organisation has extended its action directions and improved the quality of services provided. Currently organization is a resource centre for more than 700 NGOs (non-profit organizations), and 6000 information network users. Regular activities are consultations on fundraising for public beneficiary measures, information, education & technical assistance for non-profit organizations.

WeLearn Limited, Ireland

WeLearn Limited was established in the summer of 2023, as a response to the growing need for well-being education and training among schools and youth centres in rural Ireland. WeLearn is committed to supporting the well-being of young people, youth workers, teachers, parents, and entire families in the region. WeLearn believes eco-therapy initiatives hold the potential to address the recent rise in mental health concerns.

ACTA Foundation, Bulgaria

Acta Foundation is a Bulgarian non-governmental organization acting in public interest. The name of the Acta Foundation was inspired by the Latin “acta non verba” literally meaning “actions not words” which is the philosophy that united a group of experts with rich and complementary academic backgrounds and hands on business experience behind the Acta foundation. The mission is to facilitate the development of active civil society through initiatives aimed at transforming education, business, and leaders towards a more sustainable, smart and inclusive world.

DOREA Educational Institute, Cyprus

DOREA Educational Institute is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2012 in Limassol, Cyprus.  DOREA’s general scope is to provide high-quality non-formal education for adults and youth, covering the three main areas of non-formal education: socio-cultural (popular) education, education for personal development and professional training. DOREA aspires to create a difference for the future by placing its emphasis on human potential and empowering people to find their voice and tap into their giftedness.

Aklub Centrum Vzdelavani a Poradenstvi, Czechia

AKLUB Centre of Education and Counseling – is an educational and non-profit organization.  AKLUB was established in 1997 in the Czech Republic, in the town of Krnov. Organization is respected and highly appreciated in the Czech Republic for educational services and for developing educational and integration programs and products. AKLUB team consist of professionals in education, counsellors, coaches, teachers, trainers and psychologists on the one hand and project managers and administrative staff on the other hand.

JUGEND, Bildung und Kultur EV, Germany

JuBuK is a non-governmental, non-profit organization that was founded in 2008. Since then, JuBuK has organized more than 100 national and international projects on the topics of active citizenship, entrepreneurship, digital competences and media literacy, social inclusion, interreligious dialogue, gender equality and mainstreaming, migrant issues, intercultural dialogue, capacity building, sustainable development, environment and climate change.
